Robin Noorda studeerde animatie en fotografie aan de Rietveld Academie en Visuele Communicatie aan de Rijksacademie. Hij was in de tachtiger jaren ontwerper bij de NOS en pionier op het gebied van de computeranimatie. In die tijd bestond zijn autonome werk uit installaties voor het Tropisme (www.tropism.eu), een kunststroming waar hij mede oprichter van is. Na ruim twee decennia liet hij de tweestrijd van toegepast en autonoom werk uiteindelijk in het voordeel van de vrije kunst uitvallen en uit zich sindsdien voornamelijk als animatiefilmer, experimenteel fotograaf, lichtkunstenaar en virtual reality kunstenaar.
Een markering was het Shivering Beauty project in 2007; documentaire en muziekfilm, boek en foto-expositie over de clash van de culturele erfenis en culture shock van hedendaags Mongolië gebaseerd op 4 reizen door het land.
Met de twee stop-motion animatie films over de mier Red-end haalde hij vele internationale prijzen binnen en een nominatie voor een Gouden Kalf.
Een ander hoogtepunt was het curatorschap van de Tropistische foto-expositie Fotosynthese - nieuw licht op planten in de Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam in 2013, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in 2015 en de inrichting van het Tropisme Lab, een permanente vleugel voor Fotosynthese in het Flower Art Museum.
Lichtkunst projecten die hij met mede tropist Menno Schrap, Alfred Marseille, Margot van de Stolpe en Paul Godschalk maakte, waren onderdeel van de licht festivals in Amsterdam in 2014 en 2016/2017, Groningen 2016, Sweden 2015/2016, China 2016/2017, Singapore 2017 en voor het grootste licht festival in de wereld Vivid Sydney in 2017.
De samenwerking met mede tropist Margot van de Stolpe in het Ultra Vanity project leidde in 2018 tot diverse exposities.
The Sonotrope is een virtual reality muziek, sculptuur, dans performance die tijdens Cinedans in het Eye Film Museum in 2019 de eerste uitvoering had.
Op dit moment werkt hij aan een nieuwe animatie film.
Hij was verbonden aan animatiefilm instituten en doceerde op diverse kunstacademies. Nu geeft hij workshops aan de Nederlandse Film Academie, VRAcademie en ArtEZ.OpleidingenRietveld Academie, Rijks Academie, Centrum Elektronische Muziek
